Sarno - Matteo Vigan (Birel-Iame) was the leading player this weekend in Sarno, dominating the scene in the KF2 class. The MGM team driver, already a top player coming out of the 1st trial in Muro Leccese where only Maisano's impropriety (punished by the judges) kept him from climbing to a higher step on the podium, was successful both in the Pre-Final and the Final. The 65 total points that he has won project the young MGM team talent to the top of the provisional rankings for the championship. Petri Suvanto was also a leading player with an exceptional performance starting in the qualifier and the qualifying heats that allowed him to win the first row for the pre-final. Unfortunately though, his Pre-Final ended 4 laps from the finish due to a technical problem. But redemption came in the Final when, with an exciting recovery he climbed back up from the rear to reach 7th place, confirming Birel-Iame's great competitiveness in 2009. For the record, behind Vigan came Luka Sami and Max Goff in the Pre-Final while in the Final it was Tiene and Goff again. It must be mentioned that Basz (RK) had two accidents in the heats as well as in the recovery race, missing the qualification; his teammate Ceccon, on the other hand, was penalized by an accident in both the Pre-Final and the Final. In the KZ2, the top category due to its respite from the Super-KF, the Frenchman, Thomas Mich proved himself to be up to the challenge, winning the 3rd highest time in the qualifier and racing some excellent heats. But both the Pre-Final and Final were scattered with contacts that kept it from being possible for him to earn points for the championship. Francesco Laudato on the other hand began his race on the upswing starting in the qualifiers raced with rain tires while the track was drying. In the Pre-Final the ex-hampion ended up in 12th place while in the Final he left the track while trying to regain his position. It must be mentioned that Laudato is performing some chassis tests for the World Cup which will take place on the Sarno track in September, and he is gaining useful information. For the record, in the Pre-Final Lammers beat out Hawksworth and Iglesias while in the Final success again went to Lammers over Renaudie and Dreezen. In the KF3 the Birel drivers proved that the 2009 chassis performs on the highest levels. The young Englishman Walsh was the best advocate for the Lissone company in the Pre-Final going on to finish in 8th place behind the leaders while some contacts relegated Agostini to 13th place and Schmidt to 16th. Another contact in the dynamic KF3 that required a lot of attention from the Race Judges relegated both Tunjio (MGM team) and Coleselli KSB) to the rear. In the Final on the other hand, Agostini was carried along with the leaders but a tailspin by De Vries who was hit by Marciello set him back past 10th place. The driver from Padova then climbed back up to 8th place, while Schmidt did better, going on to win 5th place. Walsh also ran a good race again, earning 14th place at the finish line, as did Tunjio with an excellent race; even though he remained entrapped in the centre group, he registered times that were faster than Kvyat, the 1st place winner. Sainz and Marciello also climbed the podium in the Final.
