BIREL: The New 2007 Racing Range

The 2007 range will feature important developments and novelties in all segments A common denominator of all production for top professional events is the development directly managed by Birel’s Racing department, which is a guarantee of absolute excellence.

100 MOTORSPORT LINE (RX 32-SV - MX 32-SV - R 31-SV - M31-SV)

The line 100 cc for gear-less categories guaranteed several sporting successes for Birel, particularly in a National context where figures are the most important element for drivers. Such results are the fruit of the work carried out by Birel’s Racing Department, whose job it is to identify technical solutions for the line of Racing products. The goal has always been to search for innovative technological solutions but also the adaptability of the chassis to different types of tracks and tyres. The use of a Birel Racing chassis easily guarantees a good starting set up. In this way even the more inexperienced drivers can quickly find a satisfying balance. At the same time, thanks to several possibilities of adjustment, more expert drivers can efficiently personalise and finetune the set up. Thanks to these premises it is not difficult to understand how Birel chassis are among the most frequently chosen by drivers of the Junior and Ica categories: thanks to their experience, these drivers appreciate how easy it is to adjust these chassis and how uniform their performance is no matter what the track conditions are. There will be four available models, all identified by the SV code. There will be two R series chassis and two M series chassis. The R range will include a version mainly realised with 32 mm rails (RX 32-SV) and a further version with mixed 30 and 32 rails (R 31-SV). The R line is particularly effective with soft tyres and dry track conditions, but has also achieved a remarkable success in the Junior class, thanks to the fact that it keeps the chassis «free», thus exploiting the engine’s power at its best. Two other proposals from the M line are the models MX 32-SV and M 31-SV. In comparison with the R line, the rails’ diameters are the same but the characteristics of design and the performance are radically different. Whereas the R range is characterised by straight rails in the tank area, the M range has a curved design. The M series’ technical characteristics generally guarantee more «grip» and efficiently adapt to medium-hard compound tyres and slippery tracks. In terms of set-up, all chassis have top range Freeline Hq accessories, magnesium rims and Motorsport Pvc sticker kits. For all the 4 models the novelties for 2007 particularly concern the structure and some of the main aspects of the bodywork. Several solutions were tested and for each model optimal balance compromises between front and rear were achieved. Among the developments which have been introduced the most important concerns the new «C» of the small spindle: they have new camber and caster, thus guaranteeing better grip at the front without jeopardising the smoothness. Always at the front, two different torsion-bars can be adopted, whereas at the rear the bearings have new flanges which allow for significant adjustments to be carried out. In comparison with 2006, only the 1.040 pitch has been adopted, as it proved to be the best in terms of balance. For all the range the recently
approved front brakes will be available as an optional.

THE NOVELTIES
At the front two different torsion-bars can be adopted: the one further back gives more grip to the rear, whereas the second one improves the grip at the front. Among the novelties are also the small spindle’s «C», the camber and caster, which guarantee a better grip at the front without jeopardising the smoothness. It is no however longer possible to change the pitch of the flange on the rear bearing; in-depth tests have shown the 1040 being the ideal pitch. Always at the rear, the bearing’s housings can be fastened vertically in various positions: the lower they are fastened, the higher will be the «grip». The new flange also houses the «hybrid» 50 mmdiameter bearing: this means that the external diameter is smaller in order to improve smoothness and reduce weight. Available optional the front brake.

THE DESIGN
One of the main characteristics of Birel karts is their design. As far as this is concerned, users are increasingly more demanding and the market awards those products which can differentiate themselves in terms of personality and image, as well as technology. Many accessories are anodized in blue and great attention has been paid to even the smallest details. A practical example of this philosophy is the excellent workmanship of the braking systems.

125 MOTORSPORT LINE (CRX 32-SV - CMX 32-SV - CR 31-SV - CM 31-SV).

Birel has four proposals for the categories with gearbox: two models of the R line (CRX 32-SV and CR 31-SV) and two models of the M line (CMX 32-SV and CM 31-SV). Chassis identified with the acronym 32 mostly adopt 32 mm rails, whereas the 31 versions are realised with mixed 30 and 32 mm rails. As for the chassis of the 100 cc range, Birel Motorsport put a lot of work into optimising the performance of the bodywork, which feature some substantial structural novelties. The results achieved ensure better balancing than the last season’s models and a great compromise between grip and smoothness has been found. These results were possible also thanks to the efficient solutions applied to the front-wheel assembly; the «C» of the small spindle, as well as the camber and the caster have been completely renewed. Cornering has significantly benefited from this, without upsetting the total balance of the chassis. Always at the front, the fastenings for two different torsion-bars have been provided for. At the rear on the other hand work has been carried out on the axle’s flanges and on the bearings, and the possibilities of adjustment of the chassis have also been increased. The 2007 range too, particularly with reference to the R series, is consistent with one of the characteristics of Birel’s chassis, which guarantee great adaptability to different types of tyres and tracks. Among the strengths of Birel’s 125 karts are undoubtedly the braking systems which, in the gearbox categories, are of critical importance. All the range features top accessories and great attention has been paid both to functional and design elements. Each karts comes complete with a Motorsport Pvc sticker kit. As to model selection criteria, giving advice is hard as a driver’s driving abilities could be better expressed with one chassis rather than another. According to the general guidelines of Birel’s Racing department, the CR 32 and CM 32 versions are at their most effective with medium/hard tyres and on slippery tracks. For National and International events which provide for the use of soft tyres and on dry tracks on the other hand, the CR 31-SV model is advisable.
